Nancy Tourism-Place Stanislas
Price:
At the northern lateral edges of the Pl. Stanislas there are elaborate wrought-iron grilles each with a triple portico and a fountain in each base. The right one exhibits Amphitriton and the left one Neptune created by the sculptor Guibal of Nimes. Further wrought iron gilded work, also by the local artisan Lamour, is found at the ends of rues Stanislas and Ste.-Catherine which run around the north edge of the square. More iron work is found on the facade of the Hotel de ville which runs along the south side of the Place, here including a balustrade. Just beyond the right fountain is the Parc de la Pepiniere.
Facing north in the center of the giant Place Stanislas is today a full sized standing statue of Stanislas created and placed there in 1831 to replace a different one destroyed during the Revolution that was of Louis XV. The surrounding buildings were created during Stanislas’ reign as father-in-law of the King, deposed King of Poland and receiver of the Duchy of Lorraine. Around the square are five pavilions , the two northern ones, of a single floor height, lead into rue Here and immediately beyod to face an Arc de Triomphe. On the south side of the square, the Hotel de ville covers that entire side. On the west side is the Musee des Beaux-Arts.
Place Stanisias is beautiful at night. Everywhere is shining with a sense of glory of the past.
Its really a beautiful and elegant place.
